  • New Semester

My first day in a new town went well for the most part. I had no trouble finding my bus, or getting to where I was going. I still have a lot to figure out before I can completely let go of the anxiety and feel more at home...it's going to be very new and very different for a while. For now, I'm wandering aimlessly...making mental notes as to the location of one building in relation to the next. It will take a while to decode the maze of streets and walkways. At least I think, I do not look quite as new as I am.

  • A Busy Day

In the 100+ degree Auburn weather, I was out yesterday scouting out the buildings where I have classes. It feels like I haven't even taken my first college course yet. The size difference is unreal. For only my second time on campus though, I found my way around without much difficulty-something I was proud of. I found all of the C-Zone parking lots, got my books and my parking pass, and got a better idea of where the major buildings are in relation to the lesser ones. I think i'll take to my new surroundings quite nicely-the drive isn't even that bad.

Of course, that was only the start of my day and only a fraction of the things that I had to do. Grandmas 70th birthday party was last night, which was planned, put together and catered by myself, mom, my aunt and my cousin. Sixty people and three hours later, we had a lot of cleaning up to do. It was worth it though, everyone had a great time-there was even an Elvis impersonator!

    Now...wedding plans.

  • You Gotta Get Lost

For Christmas last year, Jason gave me this calendar that has a different area of Italy for each month, and then pictures of that area on each of the days. When he gave it to me, it was really depressing because I was no longer going. Now I have it front and center above my computer and it brings me an unbelievable amount of joy. Right now, it's on Capri. Last month was Umbria and the next is Tuscany...a little sneak peak at the two additional places we'll be visiting

I think i'm studying harder for my trip than I ever have for school. I am now fully aware of the history, locations, costs, square footage, and corresponding metro lines of everything I want to visit next May/June. I study the language at least a little every day so I can at least make an attempt..i'm sure my efforts will be at least slightly appreciated.

This is another thing I think we are doing right. We had talked about saving money by going on a cruise. With the current plans, that just seems like a waste of time. If we're going to do it, i'd rather do it the way we are...with all of the freedom and flexability and pain-in-the-assedness of having a plane drop us in a foreign country and telling us to go for it. Yup, we're Anthony Bourdaining it on this one.

  • Okay, for real this time

This time last year I was planning a trip to Italy. Fortunately, though my Italy trip was canceled, it was replaced by a truely amazing trip to Seattle. As of yesterday morning, my fiance' and I had plans to take a much cheaper honeymoon in order to save for a future trip to Europe. Jason, being the naturally curious and money-savvy type...descided to check and see what a good starting point would be for our funds. Mid-afternoon he called me with an itenerary that was not quite within our intended budget but one that we could make work. By dinner time, it was booked. A week-long trip to Rome for a honeymoon that I have literally dreamed about. We leave the day after the wedding, stopping in Madrid before touching down in Rome on Monday. There are no words.

  • Already In Love

Seeing what my yoga class is going to be like makes me all the more eager to get started! The instructor is funny and knowledgeable and the people are really laid back and friendly. I felt like I had been there for months already!

I went and got a pedicure from Dougs 2...aaaaah. Tomorrow my grandmother and I are going to go have tea. These are the things that I busy myself with. I've done pages worth of sudoku (part of what is now my morning routine), and have read a lot of books. Right now, I am on the last third of a book about Greek Mythology. It is fastinating, I love knowing things. I've painted a little bit, now just for fun. I feel like I have something to offer in that department. I'm still blindly feeling my way about but for now I am enjoying it, and resisting self-critisizm. I've spent a good part of the summer working towards becoming a better cook-fixing myself healthy lunches and dinners throughout the week. I guess I have just been dabbling in everything that I know makes me happy, and disovering new things to add to the list. Yesterday I discovered a passion for Victorian-style home decor. And birdcages.
